136,078. Clayton, H. W., Wallwork, C. H., and Wallwork & Co., H. April 23, 1919. Inking-apparatus; damping-apparatus for lithographic machines.-Relates to apparatus for applying, removing, or stretching the skin or other covers of the rollers used in lithography, of the kind in which the cover is supported or gripped during the operation by a skeleton cylinder formed of a number of spring strips secured at one end in slots in a ring, and consists in the provision of a clamp of special construction for clamping the cover on to the strips or on to the roller when applying the cover or for clamping the strips on to the cover when removing or stretching the cover and in securing the strips in the slots in the ring by means of a metal band screwed to the ring. The clamp comprises a resilient metal band a having overlapping ends b and provided with lugs d, c connected by a, bolt f and wing-nut g<1> for positively contracting the band a. The strips h are held in the slots of the ring l by a metal band m secured to the ring l by screws n. The ends of the strips are bent at right-angles to prevent them passing through the band m. A protecting strip i of rubber or other suitable material is preferably interposed between the band a and the part to be clamped. Specification 18047/89 is referred to.
