1360545 Clothes dryers FISHER & PAYKEL Ltd 3 Feb 1972 [15 Feb 1971] 5172/72 Heading F4G The cabinet and rotatable drum 34 of a tumble drier are formed by cutting, folding and assembling painted sheet steel, the sheet steel parts being assembled not by welding but by screws, rivets or friction joints which are concealed from view in normal use of the drier. The cabinet comprises sides 2 and front 1 formed in one piece and having flanges 10, 11, 33, 8 to which is screwed top 9, back 31 and bottom 6, trim members 13, 134 being screwed to the sides 2 to conceal the screws 12, and the joint between the top 9, and the sides 2 and front 1. The drum 34 is formed together with its lifters 44 (Fig. 4) from a single piece 43 which is joined at its ends and is clamped on to flanged disc ends 49 and 50 by metal straps 53. The drum 34 has a projecting flange on one disc end 50 which engages plastics bearing pads 5 and the other end is rotatably mounted on a channel member 40 screwed to the sides 2, the motor 35 driving the drum 34 through a multiple V-belt. The motor 35 also drives a fan 36 which draws air in through aperture 38 and pressurizes the cabinet so that the air flows through slots 42, past heaters (not shown), into the drum 34 through perforations in the disc end 49 and out through a removable lint screen and filter mounted in the drier door which is hinged to the pillar 16. The door hinge comprises opposed vertical pins engaging holes in a recess of the door. A door-operated cut-off switch is provided near the hinge. The motor 35 is clamped resiliently to brackets 55 screwed to the bottom 6 and one side 2. Three wheels 71 are provided in apertures or depressions 71.
