Abstract

1357961 Reciprocating pumps L R PENN 8 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 28480/71 Heading F1A A pump, e.g. for viscous materials, comprises a cylinder 6 with an outlet 13 and an inlet 2 which is brought into communication with the cylinder towards the end of the piston suction stroke. The piston 11 has a resilient flange 26 which permits flow of material from the inlet into the cylinder before the piston moves out of the cylinder. Cylinder sleeve 5 may be internally coated with P.T.F.E. A collar 4 supports a supply reservoir. Piston-rod 23 is supported by a bearing 15 incorporating a lubricant supply fitting 16. In Fig. 2 (not shown), two pumps of the same or different capacities are disposed coaxially on either side of a reciprocating fluid motor connected to the pump piston-rods. In Fig. 3 (not shown), a plurality of pumps are disposed with their cylinders parallel and their piston-rods connected at spaced intervals to a common pivoted lever oscillated by a crank, the lever pivot being adjustable to vary the stroke. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the pump is double-acting with a central inlet and end outlets, and driven by a fluid motor.
