Abstract
1356339 Planetary coolers for rotary kilns KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ AG 22 Oct 1971 [29 Jan 1971] 49220/71 Heading F4B Planetary cooling tubes 8 communicate with the interior of a rotary furnace through openings 13 formed in the shell 2 of the furnace, the shell widening conically in the region immediately before the openings, the cooling tube inlets being approximately aligned with the adjacent portion of the shell. The furnace shell is extended by a tube 7 which runs on a bearing 9, 10, the tube 7 carrying supports 26 for the cooling tubes. A fixed tube 12 rumning through the tube 7 is provided with a platform 47 to support a burner lance or other auxiliary devices. In order to accommodate the different thermal expansion of the furnace and cooling tubes the supports 26 allow the cooling tubes to move longitudinally of the tube 7 and the connection 21 between the cooling tube mouth 20 and a connecting piece 18 allows relative movement radially of the connecting piece. The discharge end of each cooling tube is provided with a sieve 34 and baffle 37 arrangement to separate the fines from the discharged material and to direct the sieved coarse material into a crushing plant. The cooling tubes may be partially refractory lined and may be provided with grooves and projections to direct and agitate the material discharged from the furnace.
