Abstract

1356196 Structural joints SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN AB 4 May 1971 [29 May 1970] 12969/71 Heading F2M [Also in Division E1] A connector for interconnecting adjoining perpendicular clamping frame members for joining together ceiling and wall elements, for example as in Specification 1,305,877, comprises a first U-section and a second U-section, each formed with a base or web 4 or 6 and a pair of side walls 5 or 7, joined by an intermediate piece 8 which is a narrower continuation of both the webs, is contained within the height of the walls 5 of the first U-section, and is arranged and formed so that the planes of the webs 4, 6 are at right angles. As shown the intermediate piece is parallel to web 6 from which it is spaced by the thickness of the wall 2a of the wall element clamping member 2 or the corresponding wall of the floor mounted strip 3. To provide a smooth junction between perpendicular clamping members, or ceiling and wall members 1, 2, the edges of the side walls 7 of the connector are displaced relatively to the top edges of the walls 5 and web 4 by the thickness of the flanges 14 of the ceiling clamping member 1. The connectors which are inserted into the square C clamping members 1, 2 are locked therein by bent out lugs 9, 10 engaging in holes 11, 12 in the members 1, 2 or in hole 13 in the floor member 3. Heat and sound insulating panels held together by such clamping members may form the walls and ceiling of a machine room. The connector may be formed by cutting and bending metal sheet. A modified connector in which the portions 7 remain coplanar with the web 6 may be used to join a strut with the cross-section of a clamping member 1, 2 to a plane surface, e.g. a plate or concrete, by securing the plane member thereto.
