1355740 Surface treatment of leather STATNI VYZKUMNY USTAV KOZEDELNY 10 Aug 1972[13 July 1972] 37311/72 Heading C6C Treatment of the surface of a sheet of material 1, e.g. leather, is effected by pairs 3, 4 and 5, 6 of tools rotating in opposite directions about axes normal to the plane of the surface and consisting of radial elements which are brought into contact with the surface when the tangential component of their motion is parallel to the longitudinal axis A of the sheet whereby the tools 3, 4 sweep outwardly and towards one end of the sheet from a line joining their axes of rotation and the tools 5, 6 sweep outwardly and towards the other end of the sheet from a line joining their axes of rotation. The material is carried on a conveyer 2 moving in the direction A, the elements of the tools occupy their lower or surface-engaging positions during 90 degrees of their rotation, and the areas treated by each tool may overlap as shown. The operation of the tools may be controlled by a memory device that senses the shape of the sheet.
