Abstract

1353706 Carrot-topping apparatus R BOG JORGENSENS MASKINFABRIK AS 21 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 29042/72 Heading A4C [Also in Division B8] Carrots are orientated by two rotating discshaped plates mounted on a common shaft such that the slot between them is large enough at the periphery for the top end of the carrots to enter but slopes inwardly until it is too narrow for the top end. The carrots leave the discs, top end first, down a shaft and arrive at a detopping device comprising knives 21 mounted on shafts 17 extending parallel to the axis of a cutting drum 8 and co-operating with an apron conveyor 7 which has compartments each holding a single carrot, vertical partitions 16 forming a stop for the top end of the carrot. The shafts 17 are connected via arms 18 to roller cams 19 which move in an elliptical path 20 to ensure perpendicular motion of knives 21 in relation to conveyor 7 to cut-off the top end of each carrot.
