Abstract

1352993 Endless conveyers; pneumatic conveyers TWEEDY OF BURNLEY Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 Dec 1969] 62545/69 Heading B8A Apparatus for feeding articles to, discharging articles from or transferring articles between endless conveyers comprises an air box with a foraminous upper plate 26 and end walls 30, 32 shaped to fit closely adjacent the end rollers of the conveyers. A source of pressurized air is connected to the air box to create an air cushion above the plate 26 over which the articles move. The leading and trailing edges of the box have slots 37 to lift the articles and facilitate their transfer between the conveyers and the air-box. The foraminous plate may comprise a plate with a plurality of holes 38 therein, one or more layers of fine mesh wire (76), Fig. 5 (not shown), or a sheet of sintered metal or ceramic material which is air permeable. The conveyers may be arranged at different levels with the air box inclined therebetween so that the articles move over the upper surface thereof under gravity.
