Abstract
1352683 Pinless pivot S H SALTER 21 April 1971 [21 April 1970] 19059/70 Heading E2F A first member 10 (Fig. 1) is pivoted between two spaced arms 14 by means of balls 12 contained between axially aligned pairs of facing cups 11, 15 in the member and arms. The balls are large enough to hold each pair of cups out of contact and means are provided to resiliently urge each pair of cups towards each other to thereby take up wear. The means may comprise the arms' own resilience, Fig. 1, or springs 24. The arms may be interconnected by a rigid block 16 or 25, or by spacer blocks and may be similarly pivoted to the rigid block, Fig. 2. The balls may be permanently held in the arms and the pivot can be dismantled by prising the arms apart. The cups may contain a lubricant and the balls may be surrounded by a compressible washer, e.g. of rubber or felt.
