Abstract
1352165 Sausage casings and fillings KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO KK 19 April 1971 [12 March 1970] 23763/71 Heading A2B [Also in Division B5] A method of manufacturing a packed foodstuffs of an arcuate or curved shape [Fig. 3] comprises packing a raw material foodstuffs into a heat shrinkable tubular thermoplastic casing film of a vinylidene chloride/vinyl chloride copolymer which has a longitudinally extending area having a different heat shrinkage capacity from the remaining portion of the film, and heating the packed film to cause shrinkage and thus curving thereof. The tubular films are prepared by localised heat treatment under tension (see Division B5) and may be curved either by the application of external heat (e.g. immersion in hot water) to the packed tube or by using hot raw material foodstuff as packing material. In Examples tubular films of vinyl chloride/ vinylidene chloride copolymers are heat treated to render them differentially heat shrinkable, cut into -appropriate lengths, packed by conventional filling techniques with sausage meat prepared from, for example, 55 parts pork meat, 20 parts pork fat, 6 parts starch, 12 parts water (all parts by weight) and 2.5 weight % salt with respect to the total quantity of meat, clipped at both ends with aluminium clips and immersed in hot water at temperaures between 80‹ and 90‹C for 40 minutes. On cooling the packed sausages assumed a curved or ring shape, the radius of curvature r depending on the temperature of the initial heat treatment and the width of the longitudinal portion so treated.
