Abstract

1350009 Pile fabrics Y CHIBA 1 Dec 1971 55764/71 Heading D1K [Also in Division E2] A method of producing seperable fastening fabrics having spherical heads 11a on the free ends of thermo-plastic pile elements 14a projecting from a base fabric 10, comprises forming a liquid layer 75' between the elements and then subjecting it to heat from a source B so that as the liquid evaporates, the free ends are exposed and melt to form the heads. A weaving loom 20 weaves a double fabric 10' from twisted cotton warp threads and thermo-plastic filaments fed from rollers 21 via guide rollers 23. The fabric then passes via a system of rollers 26-29 through a bleaching machine 30 which includes baths 32, 36, 40 containing bleach, neutralising and washing solutions. The fabric is dried by drier 46 before passing through a coating machine 50 where a layer of binding solution is brushed onto the two outer surfaces of the double fabric 10' by brushes 51 fed with the solution from container 52. The binding agent rigidly connects the pile elements 14a to the two base fabrics 10 which make up the double fabric 10'. This fabric 10' is then cut by knife 61 into two fabrics 10; each of which is fed to a "forming" machine 70. The fabric 10 first passes through a water tank 71, preferably containing sulphate of soda in solution via guide rollers 72-74. Roller 74 has an absorbent surface so that the fabric has a relatively dry back and a liquid layer on its uppermost surface when entering the heater B. Here the fabric is heated by infra-red radiation from a gas burner 79, and the heads are formed. The fabric is then forwarded to a drying device C where an electric heater with a plurality of heat sources 92 and blow dryer 93 dry the fabric completely before it is wound onto a collecting roll D. An extractor duct 110 is provided to extract the vapours that are released during the "head forming" process. The size of the heads formed can be varied by varying the heat or the feed speed of the fabric during the process.
