Abstract
1349774 Sampling molten metal R A FALK 29 June 1971 30526/71 Heading C7D A lance comprises two coaxial sleeve portions flexibly joined together, there being opposite to the joint an aperture which exposes the entry port of a sample cartridge contained within the sleeve. After a sample has been taken the two sleeve portions are bent out of alignment to release the sample. As particularly described, sleeve portions 14, 16 are joined by web 25 formed by cutting edges 20, 22 to produce a notch 24 exposing cartridge 30. The entry port of the cartridge is initially closed by a protective disc 42, possibly of aluminium, while the exterior of the lance may be given a protective refractory coating 44 as by dipping; a layer of consumable material e.g. paper may be interposed between lance and cartridge to facilitate removal of the latter.
