Abstract

134,966. Sturgeon, R. A. Nov. 22, 1918. Discharging; treating substances with gases.- In a centrifugal separator, preferably of the type described in Specification 24038/13, the solid material is discharged by the the piston C, when the cover D is raised, into an annular chamber F, where it is dried by a current of hot air which is induced by the rotation of the centrifuge to flow through the solids therein. The fixed wall F<1> of the chamber F is provided with slotted platforms H through which the material is forced by scrapers J carried by the rotary outer wall F<2>. Hot air enters the apparatus by a pipe K, and the centrifuge may be provided with fan blades to assist the induction of the air. In a modification. oppositely inclined plates are fixed to each wall of the chamber F, and scrapers secured to each wall are mounted between the scrapers. The scrapers on the fixed wall F' may be omitted, and the inclined plates may be perforated
