Abstract
1349304 Temperature alarms PREUSSAG AG FEUERSCHUTZ 3 June 1971 [4 June 1970] 18809/71 Heading G4N [Also in Division G1] A bridge circuit comprises N.T.C. temperature-sensitive resistors R 1 , R 2 , one of which is surrounded by a heat-insulating material, and fixed resistors R 3 , R 4 , the bridge output being connected to an operational amplifier V and the input connected across a D.C. source and across the series combination of a temperature sensitive resistor R 5 and fixed resistor R 6 , the junction A of which is connected by a diode to point B at the junction of the fixed resistors R 3 , R 4 so that for slow changes of temperature the resistances of R 1 and R 2 vary at substantially the same rate but at a predetermined temperature the potential difference between points A and B causes the diode to conduct thus unbalancing the bridge to produce from amplifier V a signal to an alarm. On the other hand for a temperature change at a rate in excess of a predetermined value the resistances of R 1 and R 2 do not change at the same rate due to the heat-insulating material and resultant bridge imbalance voltage is a measure of temperature and may be applied to an alarm. In alternative embodiments; Fig. 2 (not shown), a thyristor is connected across the bridge output and the signal across a resistor R7 connected to the thyristor is used to actuate an alarm; Fig. 3 (not shown) uses P.T.C. silicon resistors for use up to 250‹ C. and R 6 is temperature-dependent instead of R 5 as before. Fig. 4 illustrates the layout of the resistors on a plate surrounded by a dome W.
