Abstract

1348965 Spray carburetters FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 10 Oct 1972 [29 Nov 1971] 46608/72 Heading F1B A carburettor has a throttle 22 rotatably mounted across an induction passage and movable from a closed first position 34 through a second open idle speed position 36 to a wide open throttle position, control means to move the throttle valve to the first and second positions which includes first means 40, biasing the throttle to the closed anti- "running-on" position, second means biasing the throttle to the second position and engine manifold vacuum sensitive means operable on engine shutdown to initially move the throttle valve to the first closed position and subsequently permit return throttle movement to the second position for starting. When the engine is cranked the turning of the ignition key energizes solenoid 98 to position valve 92 as shown to admit manifold vacuum to chamber 48 from where it bleeds via orifice 64 into chamber 46 until the vacuum levels equalize. Throttle valve 22 and plunger 56 remain as shown. If the engine is shut off by turning the ignition key solenoid is de-energized and valve 92 bleeds line 52 and chamber 48 to atmosphere. As soon as the engine stops the vacuum in reservoir 46 is slowly bled to atmosphere and the delay e.g. five seconds, permits the vacuum in servo 46 to retract diaphragm 50 and plunger.56 to permit spring 40 to close throttle 22 to prevent "running-on".
