Abstract
1347558 Treating soil with ferruginous material MARTIN MARIETTA CORP 22 Sept 1971 44230/71 Heading C1B A process for treating soil to prevent iron deficiency and iron chlorosis in plants comprises adding to said soil a finely-divided material obtained from cast iron chips by heating to a temperature of 700‹ to 1200‹ F. and then quenching in water. The ferruginous material obtained contains elemental Fe, Fe 2 O 3 , Fe 3 O 4 and minor amounts of Ca, Mg, S, Si, Mn, Al, Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn, Mo, Ti, Sn, Na, K, B, Co and V nutrients, and preferably is of a size passing No. 100 U.S. Screen. The cast iron chips may be the residue of cast iron processing operations or the by-product of machining operations. The formulations for treating the soil may also contain dispersing agent, iron chelating agent, dye and perfume.
