Abstract
1346733 Rotary heat exchangers NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 19 Jan 1972 [17 Aug 1971] 2516/72 Heading F4S In a rotary heat exchanger particularly for use in cooling a liquid such as water by means of air and comprising a cylindrical rotor unit 25 rotated by a drive shaft 26 and incorporating an annular array of circumferentially spaced hollow blade-like heat exchange elements 29 extending between end plates 27, 28 one of which includes a return header 44, each hollow blade has a streamline cross-section and is subdivided by an internal partition wall 21, into outer and inner longitudinal passages 29, 30, see Fig. 2. Liquid enters and leaves the hollow blades via a structure 33 mounted on the end plate 28 and comprising frusto-conical members 34 and 35. The blades 29 pass through and are secured to a plurality of spaced fins or annular discs 32. Bearing structures 46 and 47 are provided to rotatably support the heat exchanger. The flow of liquid through the hollow blades may be increased by incorporating swirler blades 53, 54. In a modified embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the outer and inner passages (23a, 24a) may be formed by two separate elements which together constitute a hollow blade.
