Abstract
1346124 Reconstituted tobacco or tobacco substitute compositions A M F Inc 31 Aug 1972 [22 Oct 1971] 40430/72 Heading A2C The compositions comprise tobacco or tobacco substitute and at least one film forming, polar-solvent-soluble ether, ester or mixed ether-ester substituted galactomanan gum. Tobacco substitutes mentioned are corn silk, peat, and partially oxidised celluloses and substituted celluloses. The compositions may be formed into sheets for use, after shredding where necessary, as cigar wrappers or fillers, or cigarette fillers. In the examples, finely divided tobacco was mixed with hydroxyethyl Locust Bean gum, hydroxyethyl Guar gum or hydroxypropyl Guar gum, and water (as polar solvent), cast into a film on a stainless steel belt and dried by heating the belt to about 195F by steam impingement on its underside to produce a cigar wrapper sheet. Other suitable polar solvents and substituted gums are also specified.
