Abstract

1345096 Feeding record tapes INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 10 Oct 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 46552/72 Heading G5R The path of a tape 12 between two reels includes two arcuate portions, one on each side of a transducer head 58, each arcuate portion having a length at least twice the width of the tape and being defined by a bed 79 having a width substantially equal to the maximum width of the tape, with on one side a rigid tapeguide wall 78 and on the other side a compliant guide 70 which presses the tape 12 against the rigid wall 78. Vacuum buffer columns may be provided between the arcuate portions of the tape path and the reels, and the bed 79 may be porous or perforated to allow the injection of an air bearing for the tape, outlet ports being contained in both the rigid wall 78 and the compliant guide 70.
