Abstract

1343891 Power generator utilising osmosis M H WEINGARTEN and R J WEINGARTEN 6 Jan 1971 552/71 Heading B1X [Also in Division F1] A power generating device comprising a closable chamber 10 for solvent, a closable container 27 for solution communicating with the chamber 10 through openings in the surface of the solution container, a semi-permeable material 28 mounted to cover the openings, means 34 for introducing a solution into solution container, means 11 for introducing a solvent or a solution of lesser concentration into the solvent chamber, so that solvent flows into the solution container 27, and means for releasing the pressure from the solution container. In the embodiment shown, the increased pressure in the solution container bears on disc 30 and disc 30 moves piston head 31 to compress fluid in the upper part of the container; the pressure is released by means of jet nozzle 18. The solution in container 27 may be heated by coil 39. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), a container having two solution chambers separated from respective solvent chambers by semi-permeable walls encloses two piston members, each closing a solution chamber, and a fluid pressure area between the piston members. The piston members are said to reciprocate, partly as a result of an electromagnetic field applied to the solution chambers. The pressure accumulated in the fluid pressure area can be released through jet openings and utilized. There is reference to use of the pressurized fluid (liquid or gaseous) stream to drive motors, generators or turbines.
