Abstract
1341151 Cell electrodes SVENSKA ACKUMULATOR A B JUNGNER 15 March 1972 [16 March 1971] 11974/72 Heading H1B An electrode has a metal carrier 10, in the form of a wire mesh or a foil which may be perforated, having its edges folded over to form a double thickness around the electrode periphery, electrolytically or catalytically active paste material 14 being applied to one or both surfaces of the electrode and covering the folded-over edges. The edges are preferably folded-over through an angle of not less than 135 degrees and by a distance of from 1 to 10 mm. The electrode may be circular (Fig. 4, not shown) or it may be in the form of a tape, in which case one or both of the edges of the carrier are folded inwards and the electrode is spirally wound (Fig. 5, not shown) or folded into a zig-zag configuration (Fig. 6, not shown). Leads 30 of the same material as the carrier 10 are spot-welded to it. The carrier may be of nickel, nickel-plated iron or copper, or silver. Examples given of active paste materials are nickel, cobalt, silver, manganese, lead, cadmium, zinc, iron, oxides or hydroxides thereof, or a catalytically active metal or active carbon. The paste may also include powdered or fibrous conductive material and/or a binding agent.
