Abstract
1340512 Esters of chromone-2-carboxylic acids FISONS Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [21 Jan 1970] 2839/70 Heading C2C An ester of a chromone-2-carboxylic acid is obtained by cyclizing a corresponding compound containing a benzene ring carrying in positions ortho to one another the substituents -OM and -COCHR<SP>1</SP>COCOOR<SP>2</SP>, wherein M represents H or alkali metal atom, R<SP>1</SP> represents H or a C 1-10 alkyl or aryl group, and R<SP>2</SP> represents an alkyl group, under acidic conditions and in the presence of at least an equimolar proportion of an alcohol R<SP>3</SP>OH, in which R<SP>3</SP> is an alkyl group other than R<SP>2</SP>. For example, the compound cyclized may have the Formula IV wherein P, Q, R and T may be the same or different and each is selected from H, C 1-10 alkyl, or corresponding substituted alkyl or corresponding unsaturated alkyl, aralkyl groups wherein the alkyl groups contain from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; mono and polybenzenoid aryl groups; nitro groups; carboxylic acid groups (including salts, esters and amides thereof); hydroxy groups; alkoxy groups containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms; substituted alkoxy groups; aralkoxy groups; aryloxy groups; halogen atoms and acyl groups corresponding to the above alkyl or substituted alkyl groups, or an adjacent pair of P, Q, R, and T from a fused carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; or may have the Formula (V) wherein the pair of groups A<SP>3</SP> and A<SP>4</SP> either together form a chain or a pharmaceutically acceptable derivative thereof, or form a pair of groups and -OM, and B<SP>1</SP>, B<SP>2</SP> and B<SP>3</SP> have the same significances as P, Q, R and T as defined above, and L is a linking group, for example an -OXO- chain where X is a hydrocarbon chain which may be saturated or unsaturated, branched or straight, substituted or unsubstituted, which chain may be interrupted by one or more heterocyclic or carbocyclic rings, or by one or more carbonyl groups or oxygen atoms. The products are useful for treatment of asthma, hayfever and urticaria.
