Abstract

1,237,435. Monitoring track alignment. F. PLASSER. 7 June, 1968 [12 June, 1967], No. 27231/68. Heading B7N. In apparatus for monitoring and/or correcting the alignment of railway track in which the position of a grade rail is compared with that of a reference line or chord 4, the wheel flanges of the trolleys 5, 6 carrying the line or chord and the measuring trolley 8 are urged into position sensing contact with the grade (left) rail 3 by magnetic means. The chord 4, Fig. 2, is supported on rear axle 12 of trolley 5 and the axle is secured to an armature 14 carrying a pair of coils 16, 17. When coil 16 is energized, the armature and axle are moved to the left, forcing the flange of the left wheel on axle 12 into contact with the grade rail. The flanges of the left-hand wheels of the axles 11, 15 of the measuring trolley, Fig. 3, are urged into contact with the grade rail by an electromagnet 19 mounted on the axle supporting frame 8, which is attracted to the rail but held therefrom by an anti-friction roller.
