Abstract

1,236,430. Agitating liquids. DEMAG A.G. 4 Sept., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967], No. 42123/68. Heading B1C. In a method and apparatus for mixing a particulate or liquid additive with a liquid which is mechanically agitated, the additive is supplied below the surface of the liquid and is entrained and mixed by the flow energy of the circulating liquid. An apparatus comprises a rotary agitator having a central tube 1 up which the liquid flows and hollow arms 2 out of which it is discharged by centrifugal force; the additive is supplied through a feed pipe at the intersection of the pipes 1, 2 and having a valve 4. The agitator may be vertically adjustable. The invention is primarily applicable to the desulphurization, de-siliconization and dephosphorization of a pig iron melt.
