Abstract
122,699. John, W. Jan. 31, 1918. Annealing-furnaces. - Tunnel furnaces for annealing metal plates, through which the plates are conveyed on irollies, are constructed with side walls tapering towards the entrance end, and with two fire-places C, C for coal. one on. each side, at the wider discharge end. Additional fireplaces D, D, burning coke, also are provided near the middle, and partition walls, fitted with doors K, L, and formed with openings, are so arranged that the gases and Smoke from the coal fires are caused to pass through or over the coke fires as shown in Fig. 3, on their way to the discharge flue S and the chimney U. A fan X may be fitted to draw the gases from the flue Sand deliver them by a return flue Y to the space above the coal fires, the outlet to the chimney being then closed. A supplementary chimney Z may be arranged at the discharge end of the furnace.
