Abstract

1,220,066. Lubricating textiles. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 2 Aug., 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 37029/67. Heading D1P. [Also in Division C5] A polyamide yarn lubricating composition comprises by weight:-(i) not less than 30% of a volatile aliphatic ester, (ii) not less than 10% of an anionic surfactant, and (iii) not less than 2% of an antistatic agent; such that the dry weight ratio of (ii):(iii) is greater than 3. The composition may also include (iv) a volatile oil soluble surfactant that is different from (ii). Preferred components are: (i) diethyl sebacate, dipropyl adipate, ethylene glycol dicaproate, diethylene glycol dibutyrate, n and iso propyl myristate, n and iso-butyl myristate, ethyl and, propyl polautate, and ethyl stearate, (ii) sulphated or sulphorated castor, pine, groundnut or olive oil or sulphated or sulhorated oleic acid; (iii) water-soluble polyethylene oxide surfactants, alkyl amine/ethylene oxide condensation products, nonylphenoxy polyethenoxy ethanol, cetyl polyethenoxy ethanol or polyethenoxy (1:15) lauramide; (iv) a mixture of alcohols principally lauryl and myristyl; dodecanol, ethylene glycol monolaurate or lauramide. The lubricant may be employed as an aqueous or non-aqueous dispersion containing 1-20% by wt. of the composition. In some circumstances the lubricant may be applied to other synthetic yarns, e.g. polyesters, polyolefines, polyacrylics, polyureas, polyurethanes, polyvinyls, polyethers and cellulose esters.
