Abstract

1,218,836. Making dies and bolts. STANDARD PRESSED STEEL CO. 10 May, 1968 [29 May, 1967], No. 22171/68. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F2] A self-locking threaded fastener comprises an elongated member 10 with a threaded portion 14 of generally circular cross-section adapted to be driven rotatably into a threaded hole in a second member, the threaded portion 14 having a segment whose cross-section is oblate in shape and whose construction is such that it will be compressed and elastically deformed in a manner tending to change the oblate cross-section towards a circular cross-section when said threaded fastener is driven into the threaded hole. In the embodiment described an axially extending hole 20 is provided from one end of the bolt extending to include the oblate portion so as to facilitate the deformation of the bolt. Dies for forming the oblate position are described, Fig. 6 (not shown).
