Abstract
1,218,108. Memory game. M. I. GLASS [trading as MARVIN GLASS & ASSOCIATES]. 6 Sept., 1968 [12 Sept., 1967], No. 42520/68. Heading A6H. In a memory game, a plurality of cards is mounted on a card holder which is rotated on a turntable for a predetermined period, and players endeavour to match the display by arranging matching cards in similar holders, the number of cards to be displayed in the rotating holder being predetermined by chance means, scoring being conveniently effected by means of a peg board. Thus apparatus as shown comprises a base 10 with a turntable 22 mounted thereon, spring motor 52 means for driving said turntable, card holder 116 which is mounted on the turntable during play, a plurality of cards with sets of matching cards, and spinner 110 determining the number of cards to be displayed on said turntable. The spring is manually wound by turning lever 34 counterclockwise from stop 56 to stop (54) (Fig. 4, not shown) and latch means (51), Fig. 5 (not shown) are provided for holding the spring in a wound position. The latch means are released by pressing start button 66. The spring motor 52 is connected with the turntable by means of a gear drive mechanism including star wheel (46) (Fig. 4 not shown), which as it rotates its teeth alternately strike alternate ends of the bifurcated portion of plate (48) to provide a governor for regulating the rate of rotation of the turntable. A bell 70 and an associated mechanism is provided for marking the end of a cycle of rotation of the turntable. This is so constructed that after rotation of the turntable for a predetermined time, the bell rings under the action of pin 90, and a little later the bell rings a second time under the action of pin 88. In play cards are provided with a number of sets of matching cards. Each player is given ten cards, one of each designation, and a card holder which he places in front of him. The spinner 110 is placed on the post 112 with the lower figures 1 to 4 on the top side if children are playing, or with the larger numbers 3 to 6 on the upper side adults are playing. Each player in turn spins the spinner. The player with the lowest number becomes the opeartor. The operator places the turntable cardholder on the turntable and winds the turntable by moving handle 34 in a clockwise direction until it hits stop (54). Next, the operator spins the spinner to determine the number of cards to place in the cardholder on the turntable. He places this number of cards in the cardholder on the turntable in any order and arrangement which he selects and then presses the start button 66 to start the turntable. Each player observes the cards as the turntable brings them in front of him until the bell rings under the action of pin 90. Each player then endeavours to place cards in his holder in the same arrangement as the cards on the turntable. The second ring of the bell under the action of pin 88 marks the end of the time interval for displaying of cards in the player's card cardholders. For each card correctly placed the player gets one point and for each incorrectly placed card the operator scores a point, score being kept on pegboards 120. The player to the left of the first operator becomes the operator for the next sequence, and the game continues until the designated number of points is scored by one of the players.
