Abstract
1,216,075. Infrared bolometer. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. April 29, 1968 [May 1, 1967], No. 19984/67. Heading G1A. In an infrared bolometer in which an infrared image of a small area whose temporature is to be determined is formed on a thermo-sensitive element 1 by a reflecting telescope having an annular primary mirror 3 through whose central aperture 6 image forming rays projected by this mirror and by a centrally located secondary mirror 4 pass to the thermo-sensitive element while a window or slots arranged in the path of the image forming rays corresponds in shape and size in the plane of the window to the outline of the area to be examined, one or more transverse baffles 12, 17, 18 are provided to counteract the access of non- image forming radiation to the thermo-sensitive element. One of the baffles may be outside the instrument proper and the instrument itself may or may not include an additional tube collimator or baffle. Baffle 12 may comprise two baffles 13, 15 constructed as a unit and separated by a cylindrical wall; and annular baffle 18 in which the inner ring is supported by spokes from the outer ring may include an additional spoke to exclude radiation reflected from the spindle of a focusing control 9. The apparatus is described in connection with measuring the temperature of junctions in an overhead line.
