Abstract

1,213,879. Closing apparatus. B. VAN LEER N.V. 23 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967],No. 60930/68. Heading B8T. A closing apparatus for closing the filling hole of a drum 21 is characterized in that both the device 12 for locating the hole and the device 13 for inserting a plug are mounted to perform movements describable by cylindrical coordinates and are capable of being locked radially by a gripping device 7. A first frame 10 which houses the devices 13 and 15 and also a sealing device 14, is slidable on spindles 8 and 9 in a second frame 3. The filling drum is stopped under the core 15, the locating device is operated so that the cone 15 descends into the hole during which operation the cone 15 centralizes in the hole, thus moving the frames 10 and 3. The gripping device is then activated so as to secure a head 6 to a support 5. After the cone 15 is retracted, the screw driving device 13 is brought into position by an air cylinder (17) acting on frame 10, lowered, and retracted, followed by a similar operation for the sealing device 14. As soon as the device 14 returns to its original position, the gripping device 7 is de-activated. The supports 1 are vertically adjustable to accommodate different sizes of drum.
