Abstract
1,211,101. Recovering solvent vapours by adsorption. AMEG HANDELS-G.m.b.H. & CO. K.G. 24 Nov., 1967 [26 Nov., 1966], No: 53572/67. Heading B1L. Air laden with tri- or per-chlorethylene is passed by fan 3 to and through charcoal bed 1a, the purified air leaving through opening 5. Simultaneously, steam produced in integral steam generator 6 is passed up through superheater 31 and then through solvent-laden bed 2a, desorbing the solvent which passes with the steam out through pipes 86 and 10 to counter-current condenser 11 before passing by line 12 to separator 12 where it is recovered; water heated in condenser 11 passes by line 23 to steam generator 6. When the beds la, 2a are respectively laden and regenerated, flaps 18, 19 are switched through 90‹, thereby also switching the functions of the 'beds. This switching is performed automatically by means of differential pressure valve 9. The particular construction of the adsorber is such that vapour-laden charcoal particles falling from beds la, 2a do not come into direct contact with heater surfaces, thereby minimizing the risk of phosgene formation. In other embodiments, vapour is passed upward and steam downward through the beds (see Fig. 3, not shown), and particles from a bed positioned directly above the steam generator and superheater are prevented from contact therewith by means of domed surfaces which cover the heaters (see Fig. 2, not shown).
