Abstract

1,209,050. Photographic silver halide processing liquids. GEVAERT-AGFA N.V. Nov.27, 1968 [Dec. 27, 1967], No.58656/67. Heading G2C. A photographic processing liquid for the treatment of light-sensitive silver halide materials contains as chemical fogging agent a tin (II) chelate of an amimo carboxylic acid in acid form or in the form of a water-soluble salt. The aminocarboxylic acid preferably has the formula: wherein L is alkylene including substituted alkylene, cycloalkylene including substituted cycloalkylene or alkylene interrupted by one or more hetero atoms, X represents 0, 1 or 2, R is C 1-5 alkylene including substituted C 1-5 alkylene, and each of R 1 and R 2 (the same or different) stands for hydrogen, C 1-5 alkyl including substituted C 1-5 alkyl, aralkyl including substituted aralkyl or aryl including substituted aryl. The processing liquid may be a developing liquid comprising at least one developing agent for silver halide, and the said tin (II) chelate may be added in an amount between 10mg and 10g per litre of the processing liquid. The tin (II) chelates of aminocarboxylic acids have a good fogging action to form developable specks in light-sensitive silver halide material when the latter is treated with an aqueous solution of the said tin (II) chelate and also remain stable in alkaline solutions enabling them to be incorporated in a photographic developer solution. Many examples are listed of the compounds defined above and applications of the invention to black and white and colour photography including the silver dye-bleach process are given.
