Abstract
1,208,692. Wrappers for cigarettes &c. REYNOLDS METALS CO. 2 Jan., 1968 [16 Jan., 1967], No. 317/68. Heading A2C. Wrapper material for cigarettes, cigarillos or small cigars comprises porous combustible sheet material such as paper, tobacco leaves or reconstituted tobacco sheet, having a metal (e.g. aluminium or aluminium alloy) coating thereon which is not so thick as to impair the porosity or combustibility of the material but which on combustion yields an ash which is less permeable than the uncoated material, the coating being applied to one or both sides of the material to a total thickness amounting to not less than 0.5 micrograms of metal per square millimeter. The effect of the coating is to increase the peak combustion temperature of the burning tobacco in the wrapped smoking article. The filler of cigarettes so wrapped may include hydrous or activated alumina in an amount of less than 25% by weight.
