An article of clothing comprises two separable garments: an upper garment 10, which is stretchable circumferentially and has a band 16 or circumferentially spaced areas of material which permits the stretch and has a pile surface; a lower garment 17, which has a band 19 or circumferentially spaced areas of pile filaments for engagement in the pile surface of the first material thereby forming a separable connection. The upper garment 10 consists of a brassiere and girdle with reinforced breast cups 14 and elastic shoulder straps 15. The garment 10 is stretchable circumferentially and longitudinally and is knitted from stretch yarn comprised of treated nylon fibres. Elastic filaments may provide an alternative stretching means. The stretch capacity of the band 16 may be imported in the same manner. The lower garment 17 is one of a number of interchangeable slips of different colours, shapes, or materials, to which a band 19 is sewn, which band is made according to Specifications 721,338 or 987,484 consisting of stiff protruding pile filaments with hooked ends made of a thermoplastic material. The tab 21 attached to the slip, has a pile surface presented outwardly to engage with the band 19. The component garments 10, 17 are readily separable by pulling the two bands 16, 19 apart. The bands 16, 19 may be replaced by spaced pieces of material attached in a circumferentially-extending series and which are not necessarily stretchable.
