Abstract

1297660 Cooling stuffing boxes SIEMEN & HINSCH mbH 17 Dec 1970 [23 Dec 1969] 59961/70 Heading F2B [Also in Division H2] The cooling air of the motor 2 of a centrifugal pump is used for cooling the shaft seal housing 5 which is in fluid connection with the delivery chamber of the pump by means of a clearance between the shaft and its surrounding housing. If desired, the seal housing may be provided with transverse cooling fins 6 and the current of air from the motor fan 3 directed across the housing by deflectors 9 carried by a heat shield 7. In another embodiment, the seal housing is provided with longitudinal fins and the cooling air is deflected radially outwards by a heat shield after the air has flowed over the fins.
