Abstract
1296397 Thermal storage heaters B J HARRIS 2 March 1970 [6 March 1969] 12053/69 Heading F4V [Also in Division H5] A storage heater, preferably a skirting board heater, comprises an electric heating element enveloped in electrically insulating refractory material containing a synthetic resin such as a polyester, polyurethane or epoxy resin. The resistance heating element 12 is preferably as in Specification 1,296,398, and plugs 14 and connecting sockets 13 at each end of the element 12 serve to connect adjacent heating units 11 in parallel. A convector heater unit 42 has recesses 43 and channels 44, 47, for the flow of heated air. The refractory material is obtained by first treating the synthetic resin with a fire-retarding agent and then mixing the treated resin with an aggregate of calcium silicoaluminate including an aluminono cement. The fire-retarding agent is a mixture of antimony oxide and a bromine mixture or clorentic acid and chlorinated paraffin may be used. To the treated resin may be added an accelerating agent, e.g. cobalt napthenate and a catalyst, e.g. methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, to promote curing. A moulding process is described, (see Figs. 6-8, not shown). The heating wires may be woven into a fabric supporting sheet. The heating units, after moulding, may be given an antiradiation coating, e.g. light-coloured point or a metal foil, on the surface firing the wall of the room to be heated, and the wall may be given a reflective surface.
