Abstract
129,602. Dann, F. J. March 19, 1919. Forks; spades.-A digging-tool, such as a fork or spade, is provided with a stand or fulcrum movably attached to it to allow of a pivotal levering motion being given to the tool to raise and turn the soil without bodily lifting the tool. The stand consists of a tubular metal column 2, Fig. 3, fastened to a wooden base 3, or of a single casting of aluminium &c. A clip 5 loosely embraces the shaft 4 of the tool and is pivotally connected to the column 2 by a bolt 7 passing through its ends. A grooved roller 8, Fig. 5, or like antifriction device may' be mounted on the bolt 7. A screw or projection 9 on the shaft 4 works in a slot 10 to allow of partial rotation of the tool to deposit the soil dug up. In a modification, the clip passes through a loop or strap on the shaft 4. In another, the shaft is provided with a detachable metal band having ears or lugs to engage the clip. In the form shown in Fig. 5, the clip is made in two parts hinged together at 14, and is provided with a hinged stud or bolt 15 adapted to engage a slotted lug 16 The stand may be adjustable in height, and its upper part may be made to swivel.
