Abstract
1296016 Tensioning VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN - UND STAHLWERKE AG 26 April 1971 [20 July 1970] 11401/71 Heading B3E Metal strip 1 is tensioned before being wound on a reel 3 by forcing felt plates 5a and 6a on endless belts 5 and 6 against the surfaces of the strip and connecting a breaking generator 23, via a gear 21 and shaft 19, to a pulley 13 of the belt 5 so as to allow the belts 5 and 6 to slip relative to the strip. The strip is slit longitudinally and fed between the belts 5 and 6, the belt 5 being urged downwards by a ram 17, via rollers 7, with a force sufficient to prevent slipping of the belts relative to the strip. After the strip has been fed between the belts the pressure exerted by the ram 17 is reduced slightly to allow the slipping of the belts relative to the strip. Automatic control apparatus is used so that the surface velocity of the belts 5 and 6, sensed by the pulley 13 and generator 23, is compared with the velocity of the strip, sensed by a deflecting roller 2 and a generator connocted thereto, and the difference between these velocities is automatically controlled in accordance with desired set parts.
