Abstract
1295584 Polyetherthioethers INVENTA AG FUR FORSCHUNG & PATENTVERWERTUNG 19 April 1971 [14 April 1970] 9860/71 Heading C3R Polyetherthioethers are obtained by condensing a di-alkali metal salt of monothiohydroquinone with at least one aromatic dihalogen compound in which the halogen atoms are separated by at least three carbon atoms, at an elevated temperature in the absence of oxygen in a polar aprotic solvent. The polymer contains units in which the aromatic radicals derived from the dihalogen compound are randomly linked to one sulphur atom and one oxygen atom, to two sulphur atoms and to two oxygen atoms, the polymer being amorphous and soluble in organic solvents. In examples polymers are obtained by condensing the disodium salt of monothiohydroquinone with 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dichlorodiphenylsulphone, with 4,4<SP>1</SP>-bis- (4-chlorophenylsulphonyl)-biphenyl, with a mixture of these two compounds and with a mixture of 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dichlorobenzophenone and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dichloroisophthalophenone. Other dihalogen compounds are mentioned. Uses.-Heat-resistant moulded articles, films, sheets and tubes, for electrical insulation, for lacquering wire and for impregnating and backing paper and textile fabrics.
