Abstract

1293495 Resistance heating elements SPERRY RAND CORP 2 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 18667/71 Heading H5H A resistance heating element 10 is assembled by arranging a pre-wound coil 12 of resilient resistance wire on an elongated insulating support member 11, the coil loop diameter being larger than the width of member 11, stretching the coil longitudinally of member 11 and securing it under tension to member 11, e.g. by eyelets 20, 21, at opposite ends 22, 23 of the coil 12, to maintain the coil loops 13 in a stretched and spaced condition and flattened against the surfaces of member 11. Cover strips 14, 15 of insulating mica paper sandwich the assembled coil and support member, one strip 15 having recesses adjacent terminal leads 24, 25 for accommodating wires 26, 27. Eyelets 30, 31 secure the sandwiched assembly (see also Fig. 9, not shown). The element 10 is used adjacent a heat storage plate (not shown) for heating hair curlers.
