Abstract
1292512 Ketene purification BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 11 March 1970 [12 March 1969] 11626/70 Heading C2C A process for purifying and compressing ketene which has been obtained by thermal cleavage of acetic acid in the presence of a catalyst under subatmospheric pressure followed by cooling, comprises compressing the ketene in a rotary compressor in which decahydronaphthalene is present to act as purification medium, and passing the purification mixture comprising ketene and decahydronaphthalene through a separating zone. The separated ketene may be subsequently cooled to -50‹ to 5‹ C. for further purification. Separated decahydronaphthalene may be recycled to the compressor. In comparative examples rotary pumps containing fuel oil, tetrahydronaphthalene and kerosene are used in a similar process.
