Abstract

1290619 Cutting-apparatus RICOH KK 2 Feb 1970 [20 Feb 1969] 4803/70 Heading B4B A cutting arrangement for cutting sheet material comprises an annular cutter 4 rotatably mounted on a carriage 14 and arranged to cooperate with a fixed blade 5, drive means 32, 33, 36, 37 being provided for moving the cutter along the blade in order to perform a shear cut on the material. The cutter 4 is secured by a nut 8 on a roller 7 which is rotatably mounted on a shaft 12, the latter being secured to a plate 16 on a spherical bearing 11; the bearing is adjustably clamped to the plate 16 by screws (17), Fig. 9 (not shown). The plate 16 is pivotally mounted on the carriage 14 which is slidable on rails 26, 27, Fig. 11, the plate being connected by a cable 29 which is connected at one of its ends to a take-up pulley 32 and at its other end, to a supply pulley 33; the pulleys are mounted on a shaft 37 which is driven by a motor via a gear 36. When the carriage reaches the end of its stroke in one direction a switch is actuated in order to reverse the direction of the motor; alternatively, a clutch device can be used to change the direction of travel of the carriage. In a modification the material can be moved during cutting thereby providing a curved cut or the stationary blade may be circular so that in co-operation with the annular cutter, a circular sheet is cut. The cutter 4 is moved downwardly into contact with the blade 5 at the start of the cutting stroke and lifted clear of the blade during the return stroke. At the end of the return stroke the cutter is moved laterally away from the blade by a cam-plate 30. The blade 5 is clamped in a rigid support 20 by means of a plate 21. Alternatively, the blade may be in the form of a band mounted between supply and take-up rolls so that a new cutting edge can be easily brought into use.
