Abstract

1290662 Fluoropyridazines IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP (NSC) Ltd 16 Sept 1969 [25 Sept 1968] 45573/68 Heading C2C Various fluoropyridazines of formula wherein each Y is hydrogen, fluorine, C 1-6 alkyl or C 1-6 alkoxy, at least one Y being fluorine and, in the case of the first formula, at least one Y being alkoxy, and E is hydrogen or C 1-6 alkyl, are prepared by (a) replacement of a fluorine atom by a methoxy group in the 3- and/or 6- position by reaction with an alkanol under strongly acidic conditions, or in the 4- and/or 5- position by reaction with an alkoxide, (b) conversion of a fluorine atom in the 6-position to a keto group by reaction with aqueous acid, (c) reaction of a 6-fluoropyridazine with a trialkoxy-tetrafluoroborate and treating the pyridazinium salt obtained with water, or (d) reaction of a 1-H-pyridaz-6-one with a diazoalkane to produce a 6-alkoxy-pyridazine and/or a 1-alkyl-pyridaz-6-one. The products have fungicidal, bactericidal and pesticidal activity. Tetrafluoropyridazine is prepared by reaction of tetrachloropyridazine and potassium fluoride. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,163,582.
