1290387 Cathode-ray display tube ISE ELECTRONICS CORP 24 Oct 1969 [19 Nov 1968] 52170/69 Heading H1D A cathode-ray tube for displaying characters (letters, numerals, patterns and symbols) comprises cathode 5 with focusing and deflection means, 3, 4, and character forming means 7 between same comprising a substrate with a plurality of character perforations, at least some of which are in the form of different individual characters (Fig. 2, not shown), with perforated X and Y electrodes (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), which may be selectively energized to cause electron beam passage. Grid 6 ensures uniform dispersal of electrons, the substrate may be a thin sheet of insulator (e.g. mica or ceramic) and the X-Y electrodes may be closely spaced from the substrate on opposite sides or may be on the same, front or rear, side of the substrate and may operate by positive fields. Accelerator electrode 8 is included. Image position on fluorescent screen 2 may be controlled by deflection coil 4. By cyclically exciting appropriate X-Y groups of selector electrodes, a number of characters may appear simultaneously displayed.
