Abstract
1289141 Stuffing-boxes; pipe couplings SEETRU Ltd 3 Feb 1970 [12 Feb 1969] 7514/69 Headings F2B and F2G A gland seal 12 for a liquid level sight tube 1 extending into a mounting socket 10 comprises two resilient 0-rings 20, 21 disposed axially sideby-side between two substantially identical ferrules 16, 17 of rectangular cross-section, one ring, 20, having a greater mean diameter than the other 21, whereby in use, tightening of the gland nut 13 causes the rings 20 and 21 to be pressed against the socket bore 11 and against the tube 1 respectively. The 0-rings may be of natural or synthetic rubber or P.T.F.E. and the ferrules 16 and 17 may be of plastics material. The tube 1 may be of glass or plastics material. In a modification, Fig. 4, the 0-rings are replaced by a single ring of dumbbell section comprising two annular portions 32 and 33 whose centres 30 and 31 are spaced both axially and radially.
