Abstract

1288980 Electro-plating GLACIER METAL CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [3 Dec 1969] 59017/69 Heading C7B Apparatus for plating a selected face only of each of a plurality of articles, e.g. a row of part cylindrical bearing shells 23, comprises a box (or jig) 10 for insertion in a plating bath and having a restricted opening e.g. slot 13 in its top wall 14, and means for holding the articles with the selected faces towards the opening and applying pressure to the articles to ensure electrical continuity therebetween and a shield for preventing free flow of electrolyte between the space contacting the selected faces and the space contacting the other faces of the articles, e.g. a spring- loaded pivotally mounted parallelogram framework (jig 10) comprising two U-shaped members 18, 19, and a pair of parallel conducting bars 21, 22 for cradling the bearing shells. Preferably each bar is wound with a helical wire or rod 26 or machined with a helical screw-thread. The box may include "robber" bars 30 and have a flash anode 17 insulated from the opening.
