Abstract

128,867. Joseph, E. L. Feb. 13, 1919. Gases and vapours, treating electrically. - In an ozone-generator of the type in which a number of parallel plate electrodes alternate with dielectric sheets, the electrodes are made of trapezoidal shape, the projecting triangular portions providing an increased cooling surface and at the same time serving for the electrical connexion and the clamping together of the electrodes. The trapezoidal electrodes b, c, Fig. 2, separated by rectangular sheets d, have their projecting portions e, f oppositely arranged, so that the portions of electrodes of the same polarity overlap. Rods h, j pass through holes in the projecting portions and through metallic washers k, thereby serving to maintain the electrodes at the correct distance apart and to conduct current to them. The assemblage is contained in a casing surrounded by a water-cooled jacket o. Within the casing, baffle-plates y, z, Fig. 4, are obliquely arranged in such a way that the air passage to and from the assemblage is decreased in cross-sectional area as the distance from the inlet pipe u or outlet pipe v is increased respectively, thus ensuring uniform distribution of air through the assemblage. More than one assemblage of electrodes may be housed in the same casing. Additional clamping means may be provided, comprising a rod disposed within a glass tube passing centrally through the electrodes.
