Abstract

1287225 Vehicle doors FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 27 Oct 1970 [29 Nov 1969] 50933/70 Headings B7B and B7J A pressed sheet metal door comprises a peripheral frame fixed to an outer panel 1 with a window regulator and/or lock mechanism and a protective sheet metal member 9 fixed to the door, the frame opening being closed by decorative material. The frame comprises two side portions 6, 7, a top portion 8 and a bottom portion 2 being integral with the outer panel 1. The portions are butt or lap welded before being welded to the outer panel. The metal protection member 9 has angled ends 14, 15 fixed to the side portions 6, 7 and has the window regulator not shown), lock mechanism 17 and hinge fittings 16 mounted thereto. Reinforcing strips, Fig. 2 (not shown), are fixed to the upper edges of panel 1 and top portion 8. In an alternative arrangement an opening is formed in an inner panel having integral top, side and bottom panels and the window regulator and/or lock mechanism may be carried by a transverse web connected to the inner panel.
