Abstract
1286324 Walking beam conveyers NIPPON STEEL CORP 27 Aug 1969 42573/69 Heading F4B [Also in Division B8] The movement of a moving beam of a walking beam conveyor comprises cycles of lineal upward, forward, downward and backward strokes the speed of the beam being reduced immediately before a load is transferred to the fixed beam and immediately before the load is lifted from the fixed beam. Shock imparted to the load is thus reduced. In Fig. 6, a device 6, having memorized a speed pattern comprising starting, medium speed operation, speed reduction and stopping applies the pattern to a voltage setter 7 connected to servo-devices 8, 9. A pump 10 energizes a cylinder 11 for actuating the moving beam. Fig. 7 (not shown) illustrates graphically the speed changes during the upward stroke of the moving beam. Switches (LS) are also used, in co-operation with the device 6, for the speed control. In a further arrangement, Figs. 8, 9 a midway speed reduction during the upward and downward strokes results from a portion m-m<SP>1</SP> of a cam 12 which supports rollers 14 of part of a moving beam assembly. The conveyor is particularly for use in furnaces.
