Abstract

1286042 Bobbin handling means MAREMONT CORP 21 Aug 1970 [13 Oct 1969] 40338/70 Heading D1F A bobbin tube cage 10 comprises an elongate cage member for the reception of a bobbin therein in an on-end position, the cage member being formed with an open top, through which the on-end bobbin passes, a partially closed bottom, rigidly fixed on said member, on which the bobbin rests, and an open side extending between the top and bottom and through which the bobbin is passed on withdrawal in an on-end position, guide means being provided for guiding the bobbin into the cage member, retaining the bobbin therein and guiding the bobbin for on-end withdrawal from the cage member. The cage member is formed of a back wall 32 and facing side walls 34, 36, the wall 34 preferably extending further from the back wall than the other side wall 36. The partially closed bottom of the cage member is formed by projecting flanges 30 on the side walls 34, 36. The open top of the cage member is preferably flared at 26 for ease of reception of the bobbin. A guide plate 38 is provided between the side walls 34, 36 across the top of the open side of the cage member, which guide plate 38 serves to maintain the bobbin in an upright position and prevent tilting forward of the bobbin during removal thereof from the cage member. A gate 44 movable between a closed end and an open position is hingedly mounted on the side wall 36, and is biassed into the closed position in which it partly covers the open side of the cage member. In operation, an empty or full bobbin is slid down a chute into the cage member and is supported on the flanges 30 and retained in the cage member by the guide plate 38 and gate 44. The cage member is then moved laterally from a position beneath the said chute to a position adjacent the end of an endless conveyor which is provided with spaced projection pegs. A peg projects through the partially closed bottom of the cage member and into the base of the bobbin therein. The movement of the conveyor causes the bobbin to be withdrawn from the cage member through the open side thereof against the action of the spring-loaded gate. The gate is preferably formed with a smooth convex edge portion 46 to facilitate withdrawal of the bobbin.
